These are different realms from videotaping depositions. They tell a story, and more is needed than technical equipment skills on the part of the producer. Legal Video Depositions - Starting at $150 per hour
At LC Memphis, we use professional Canon 3-chip Digital DV Cameras along with professionally mixed lavaliere microphones for each participant in the deposition. We also utilize a portable neutral or black background to give the finished production a clean and crisp look. In addition to deposition video, we offer legal video services to capture Day-in-the-Life Documentaries, Settlement and Mediation Documentaries, Site Inspections, Affidavits and Video Will Signings. Your video will be delivered on the format of your choice including: VHS, S-VHS, CD, DVD, or professional DVCAM / Mini DV within our standard 3 business day turnaround. We retain your content for for no less than 10 years should you need replacement copies in the future.
Day in the Life – Starting at $1500
The “Day in the Life” concept had its origin in the early 1960's. Although some of the earlier attempts were not accepted into court because of inappropriate emphasis on suffering, "day in the life" videos are now commonly used in severe injury cases. Admissibility is better understood now, though it's still important to be sure the video emphasizes the changes that have taken place because of the disability. The legal videographer, who enters the home of the plaintiff to be videotaped, needs tact and common sense in dealing with people. The videographer who has an understanding of the language of video can create a day-in-the-life that not only documents the "life change", but communicates clearly and effectively. The result is an impressive presentation that has a real impact on the jury.
Settlement Documentary – Starting at $2500
Although a settlement documentary video may contain part or all of a day-in-the-life,
one thing sets it apart: There are no rules. Since it's not intended to be seen by a jury, admissibility is not an issue. Its purpose is to persuade the opposition to negotiate or to get a better settlement by demonstrating what they would be up against if the case were to go to court. One thing commonly used in settlement documentaries is interviews. Those who might be interviewed are family members, doctors, experts, and eye witnesses. The attorney who ordered the video could be a part of it himself. This would allow the opposition to see the skills of the attorney.
Services in our standard deposition package include:
- Videographer on-site one hour in advance of scheduled start time.
- One set of high-quality digital master tapes of the proceedings, recorded on-site, to be placed for safekeeping and for dubbing copies as needed.
- If requested at the time of scheduling, DVDs can be recorded on-site simultaneously, for instances where it is imperative that you leave the deposition site with at least a DVD set for your immediate use; more CDs or DVDs can be shipped a few days later as your permanent media set.
- Individual Lavalier microphones for the deponent, examining attorney and opposing counsel to ensure the highest quality sound reproduction. (Additional microphones as needed for large depositions.)
- Additional lighting in situations where normal room lighting is insufficient.
- Backdrops provided in situations where the normal room background fails to meet the Code of Civil Procedure requirement for backgrounds.
- Signed affidavit by the videographer, certifying that all tapes are a true and accurate record of the deposition (as required).
- Discounted rates for depositions of long duration (over a period of consecutive days) or for quantity over a period of time.
By the time a professional Video Settlement Documentary is produced, the cost can easily run between $500 and $2,000 per finished minute, although very simple and effective, settlement documentaries can be produced for as little as $3,000-$5,000 for the total budget. Post production will constitute the majority of the cost as it can consist of script writing, editing, professional voice-overs, background music, computer generated reenactments and other creative special effects.
The Video Settlement Documentary doesn’t necessarily add to the cost of litigation, but can in fact; save your client money by getting a higher settlement and by inducing a prompt settlement that saves months or even years of litigation time. Do not hesitate to produce a Video Settlement Documentary that could be a very wise investment to assist in winning your client’s case.
